Year 4/5/6 – Hirfynydd

Class Teacher – Mr. C. Fulford-Astley

Teaching Assistant  – Miss. G. Morgan

Welcome to the Hirfynydd class page!

Our classroom is a vibrant, welcoming and purposeful learning environment where every pupil is encouraged to shine. Lessons are fun, engaging and thoughtfully planned to spark curiosity and enjoyment, while also promoting independence and resilience. Children are challenged at an appropriate level and supported to take ownership of their learning, think for themselves and strive for their personal best.

High expectations of behaviour underpin everything we do. Pupils know that kindness, respect and responsibility are essential, and they consistently demonstrate positive attitudes to learning. Routines are clear and consistent, allowing children to feel safe, confident and ready to engage in all activities.

As a class, we celebrate effort, perseverance and achievement. We work collaboratively, support one another, and embrace new challenges with enthusiasm. Every child is valued, and together we create a community where everyone can succeed.

How to Support Your Child at Home

Supporting your child at home plays an important role in their learning, confidence and wellbeing. Small, consistent actions can make a big difference.

Here are some simple ways you can help:

  • Encourage a love of learning
Talk about what your child has learned at school and show interest in their work. Praise effort as well as achievement to help build confidence and resilience.
  • Read and talk together
Reading regularly with your child supports language development and comprehension. Talking about stories, feelings and experiences also helps develop emotional awareness.
  • Practise times tables
Times tables are vitally important to most of our Numeracy learning. Help your child practise these. Complete some chanting in the car or even learn a times table rap, I assure you this will help.
  • Practise spelling words
Your child will be given weekly spelling words. Help your child practise these and put them in to sentences. Your child will receive a spelling test each Friday.
  • Promote emotional wellbeing
Help your child name and talk about their feelings. Encourage calm strategies such as deep breathing, quiet time or drawing when emotions feel big.
  • Develop social skills
Practise turn‑taking, sharing and problem‑solving through games and play. Talking through social situations can help children feel more confident with others.
  • Stay connected with school
Regular communication with staff helps ensure your child receives consistent support both at home and in school.
