Free School Meal Rollout – Year 5/6

Dear Parent/Guardian,

Neath Port Talbot Council has announced that it is rolling out free school meals to an additional 2150 primary pupils in years 5 and 6 ahead of schedule.
All children in years 5 and 6 will now receive Universal Primary free school meals from Friday 1st September 2023 (Autumn term).

The roll-out is a part of the Welsh Government’s commitment for every primary school pupil to receive a free school meal by September 2024. This is an important step in reaching the shared ambition of ensuring no child goes hungry while in school.
However parents that receive benefits that entitle their child to a free school meal are being encouraged to register for a free school meal if they haven’t already done so as they may be entitled to a SEG – School Essentials Grant.

Please rest assured that if your child is currently in receipt of free school meals and/or any other associated benefits, these will not be affected.

Kind regards,

Blaendulais Primary

FREE SCHOOL MEAL HOLIDAY PAYMENTS NOTIFICATION

Free School Meal Holiday Payments

Notification from Welsh Government

As you are aware, holiday provision for learners that are eligible for a free school meal was introduced in response to the COVID pandemic as a form of time-limited support to help families. While we have been able to support several temporary continuations of the scheme, we confirmed in March 2023 that the most recent extension would be up to the end of the May half term only. I can now confirm that this remains the case and that there will be no further extension to cover the summer holiday period or beyond.

Free School Meal holiday payments has now ended and will not be paid in respect of the Summer holiday period or beyond.
